Rabies RAPID ™ Screen is a non-instrument based antibody test used to detect the presence of rabies antigen on a suspected surface. Easily portable and cost-efficient, the test can be taken into the field for on-the-spot analysis. Yet it is sensitive enough be your first line of investigation inside the lab.
Each Kit Contains:
- 5 linear flow cassettes with antibody
- 5 Sterile cotton swabs
- 5 Transfer pipettes
- 5 Aliquots of buffer
- 1 Directions for use
How It Works
The Rabies RAPID ™ Screen uses a linear flow assay which provides yes/no results within 35 minutes.
To screen for rabies antigen simply dilute the sample in the buffer solution. Test against a positive and negative control by filling the oval test well with sample.
The sample migrates across the nitrocellulose strip containing antibody and will either develop two lines (negative) or one line (positive) for rabies antigen.
Instructions for Use
First, swab the surface with one of the sterile cotton swabs provided. If testing a dry surface, you will need to wet the swab first by dipping it in the specially formulated buffer solution provided.
Then, immerse the swab in the provided microtube containing 0.4mL of buffer and allow it to soak for 15 minutes.
Next, using the transfer piptette, add an aliquot of the sample to the oval well of the cassette.
Wait 20 minutes, and then read results window. For accuracy, results should be read within one hour.
DISCLAIMER: A negative result does not guarantee that rabies is not present. The screen produces a positive result to killed rabies virus (antigen) at the low microgram/mL range in serial dilution studies. Results are not quantitative. A positive result would signal the need for caution and further testing. |
